Ayahuasca Ceremonies

Explore traditional Ayahuasca ceremonies in South America at Refugio Altiplano, which offers sacred healing rituals deep in the forests of Peru.

What is the Ayahuasca Ceremony?

The Ayahuasca ceremony is a spiritual and deeply transformative experience rooted in the traditions and shamanic practices of South America. Guided by experienced shamans and utilizing a psychoactive brew known as ayahuasca, the ceremony is renowned for its ability to induce altered states of consciousness and promote spiritual healing.

What Happens During a Ceremony?

Ayahuasca ceremonies typically take place in a safe environment under the guidance of an experienced shaman. After consuming the brew, participants embark on a transformative journey that can include:

  • Vivid visions that can last for hours
  • Emotional release, leading to emotional healing
  • Spiritual growth and transformation.

Is Prior Experience Required for Ayahuasca Ceremonies?

In spite of our advanced shamanic techniques, you don’t need any previous experience to attend our Shamanic Ayahuasca ceremonies. The dosages and Shamanic work is adjusted carefully to each individual’s needs and aspirations.

Individualized Experiences

Everyone in the Ayahuasca ceremony progresses at their own pace. For persons who are facing debilitating health or emotional issues our staff usually recommend a 12 day retreat with an option to extend, depending on progress. Determinations will be made in person, following their first ceremony. Any questions you would like to raise can be addressed prior to arrival by contacting us.

Safe & Comfortable Environment

The ceremony takes place in a safe, protected and comfortable atmosphere where our shamans coordinate with the Ayahuasca while directing the ceremony.

Acclimatizing to Ayahuasca - the Initial Steps

The first ceremony is gentle and the client is on a small dosage to give them time to become accustomed to a moderate trance state. The dosage of Ayahuasca appropriate for each person varies, and is quickly adjusted during and after the first ceremony.

Our Traditional Ayahuasca Ceremony Itinerary

On ceremony nights the last meal will be at 2pm. Our guides will pick you up from your house and bring you to the ceremonial temple at 7:30pm. Bring a pillow and a blanket from your house, a water bottle, and flashlight. You can sit or lie down, let your body and mind relax, while breathing deep, steady and slow.

Stages of Our Ayahuasca Ceremony

The Ceremony Begins

As the ceremony begins, the stage is set, and the spirits of the jungle will be invited to participate. After the Shaman drinks, the guests will be invited up, one by one, to take their dose. You will start off with a small dose, slowly increasing or reducing, based on your capacity, desires, metabolism and goals. This is a critical part of the healing and evolutionary process and another reason why it is wise to drink with a capable, compassionate and experienced Shaman.

Prayer and Darkness

After everyone takes their dose, a prayer is said and the candles are extinguished. Ayahuasca is best experienced in total darkness. The Shaman will start singing beautiful icaros and the effects of the medicine will begin. This is where the magic happens. Throughout the ceremony, while the icaros continue, the Shaman is continually interacting with the participants, guiding their journeys and clearing their energetic blockages. If you purge or need to use the bathroom, our Shaman and support staff will help you and ensure your safety and comfort.

The Conclusion of the Ceremony

At the end of the ceremony, the Shaman lights a candle, dismisses the Spirit allies, and checks on the participants individually. As your trance wanes, you can talk with the other guests about your experiences. When you are ready, our guards will carefully guide you back to your house. The medicine is still acting on you, and most guests prefer to lay in bed through the night and into the early morning, listening to the sounds of the jungle and assimilating the healing and illumination of the ceremony.

A Safe Environment

We understand that the jungle environment and strong medicine introduces our guests to an exotic, mysterious world unlike anything they are accustomed to at home. Rest assured that while you are at Refugio Altiplano Healing Center you will be safe and well taken care of. The Shamanic therapy you begin at the Refugio will continue in the modern world, communicating through your subconscious mind and dreams.
